Rotation Stretches

Here’s a few stretches I demonstrate with Dave and Greg for your shoulder turn.  You can also do some of these things while sitting down!

Would there be anything wrong with holding the lower leg as you instruct, but extending the top leg straight (90* for your belly) and holding a 6# or 8# weight in your hand.  I have found this is the only way to complete the stretch without rotating the hips.  The extended top leg acts as a counter weight and anchors the hips and pelvis.

Rod, In the Book Ends Stretch, it's perfectly fine to hold onto the top leg while you're opening up your arm, and extending the lower leg is perfectly fine too.  However, extending the top leg does not seem to provide as much resistance or torque in the stretch.  I also DON'T advocate holding a weight in your hand, as that puts too much friction on the shoulder joint.  Try keeping both knees pressed against a wall, chair, etc. and dont' worry if you can't get your arm on the floor.  Relaxation and Gravity will bring it down without forcing.

Rod, I see I misread your Comment regarding the Top Leg extended.  I orginally thought you meant hold it straight down (180 degrees) from your torso, but noticed you did say 90 degrees from your belly.  That would be perfectly acceptable and effective, but I still am against using a weight in your hand.
