In the human body, the Lower Body dictates to the Upper Body. For example, if a person has real tight and imbalanced hip flexor muscles, not only will the pelvis be pulled forward, but it’ll also take the Upper Torso with it. Obviously, stretching out the upper trunk will help, and if that’s all that’s done, the hips will still be tight.
When I sit for long periods or overuse my legs and hips, almost inevitably, my shoulders will tend to ‘cave in’ and round forward. And, Rounded Shoulders is what you DON’T WANT in your golf swing!
When that happens, what I’ll always do – is along with my daily flexibility program, I’ll spend more time on the Slant Board, or if one’s not available, I’ll stand on a stair or a step, and allow Gravity to Stretch Out all of the Posterior Muscle Chains that run from the back of my neck down to my heels. When I do that for a minute or two, my shoulders will always begin to come back into proper alignment.
