TRY THE ‘PLOP’ METHOD OF CHIPPING WHEN YOU DON’T HAVE MUCH GREEN

The Plop Shot

One of the ‘Tricky’ Shots in golf is when you’re just off the green but don’t have very much green to work with. If the lie is perfect and you’re just on the fringe, it’s usually a good idea to putt it – BUT, in most circumstances, I suggest you try the ‘PLOP SHOT’ – one of my personal favorites.

This technique is designed to get the ball up in the air quickly, with very little spin – so it comes down very soft , and with very little run.

As I explain in today’s video, to do the ‘PLOP’ shot, play the ball a little more forward in your stance as usual, then bring the hands back a little more. This will add more loft to your club. Then, take the club back somewhat ‘stiff wristed’, and try to make a putting stroke. Because your hands are slightly behind the ball, the ball will get up in the air more quickly, and come down more softly.

Whenever I’m slightly off the green and don’t have much green to work with, I’ve often enjoyed a lot of success with the PLOP shot. Give it a shot – and so will you!
