If you’re suffering from the Yips, there’s a good chance that you have too much hand action in your chips. A sure way to help tame those herky jerky hands is to weaken your Left Hand Grip. I mean REALLY weaken it! I.e, turn it so that the ‘V’ formed by your left thumb and forefinger is actually pointing towards your left shoulder.
Also, try hitting the shot just like a putt – ONLY, you’ll be playing the ball back in your stance with the hands forward. I’d also recommend that you control the stroke primarily with a pendulum type of action with your shoulders. The hands and arms just go along for the ride. It won’t take you much time to find that you’ll be hitting your chips much more solid with a controlled spin.
